Looking Glass

As children bring their toys with tears for us to mend
So I gave my heart to you because you were my friend.
But you didn’t help to mend it; in fact, you did not care at all
As I let my heart go, you pulled back and watched it fall.
Yet you still are always there, I see you everywhere I go
At dinner or a movie, your face is sure to show.
I see you in the morning, afternoon and night
To treat me so, yet hang around really isn’t right.
Every time I see you, you make me feel the fool
Did you not learn the most common ‘golden rule’?
Desired by so many, yet practiced by so few
Do onto others, as they would do to you.
With the way you treat me, you really are an ass
I can see beyond that smile and deep within those eyes – Alas

It is only me I’m seeing reflected in the glass.
